Could you please confirm what the correct code is for a sphincteroplasty of the biliary tract that is performed with a balloon dilation during ERCP.
Looking in the Index under Sphincteroplasty, Sphincter of Oddi it takes you to 30458-04 [971]. This groups the episode to H02B Major Biliary Tract Procedures W/O Catastrophic CC which doesn't seem appropriate for a same day patient.
Is Index entry Dilation, biliary tract NEC, endoscopic 30494-00 [971] is a more appropriate code?

VICC reviewed the operation report noting that there is documentation of a sphincteroplasty of the biliary tract. Therefore VICC advises that it is correct to follow Index entry Sphincteroplasty/sphincter of Oddi to assign 30458-04 [971] Repair of sphincter of Oddi.
VICC also advises to assign a code for the ERCP an additional code if the sphincteroplasty is performed endoscopically.
In regard to a more appropriate code, you may wish to submit a public submission to ACCD suggesting the creation of Index entries for open and closed at Lead term Sphincteroplasty/sphincter of Oddi.
